8th March, West Midlands Fire Academy, “Something Big”
Over 100 delegates attended our first Interagency Networking Event. Our partners were West Midlands Fire Service, British Women in Policing, Home Office Women and the Ambulance Service. The day included workshops covering coaching, leadership, domestic violence & arranged marriage, "be a firefighter", teambuilding, abseiling, faith awareness, multi agency decision making, stress & well being and personal protection.
The Brigade celebrated International Women’s Day on Thursday, 17 March 2011. ‘Fairness’ and Networking Women in the Fire Service support groups hosted a one day event with the theme of ‘Celebrating 100 years of Women’s Achievements’.
The day included speakers, interactive exercises aimed at developing team building techniques and leadership skills, as well as a variety of workshops.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service ran a Managing Diversity event in association with Asian Fire Services Association and Networking Women in the Fire Service. Subject covered were, the benefits of networks and support groups, the tools for managing diversity, the value of coaching, the business case for diversity, and how to effectively manage inappropriate behavior in the workplace.
The challenge is to drive a wide variety of weird and wonderful vehicles! Each Ladies Driving Challenge is unique. To take control of the wheel for a day (without the interruption of the usual back seat driver in your life!), all we ask is that you pay a £10 registration fee and raise a minimum amount of sponsorship.
Members are often questioned and criticised for organising women only events, in an effort to support members in dealing with these challenges, NWFS has produced a statement explaining the rationale, detailing the benefits and positive outcomes of such events.
Having accomplished the Sub 24hour 3 peaks challenge in 2007 & 2008, NWFS members looked for a new, and somewhat wetter, challenge.
Following the successful positive action events in Ely, Cambridgeshire, the team have just returned from supporting East Sussex in their recruitment programme.
Networking Women in the Fire Service's 10th National Training and Development event was recently held at Tyne and Wear's purpose built HQ & Training Centre in Newcastle, with sponsorship from the North East Regional Management Board and Draegar. The theme for the event was "Unlock Your Potential"
