I work at S56 Skelmersdale, Lancashire, having previously worked at C50 Preston, Training Department, Arson Reduction Team and a few other places in between.. I have been involved with Equal Opportunities in Lancashire for several years, sitting on the EO Forum. I was introduced to NWFS a few years ago and I have gradually become more involved, taking over as Regional Rep in 2005.
I relish every aspect of my membership and Rep duties, which have allowed me to meet a host of new people from all over the UK and learn quite a lot along the way, whilst also enjoying some spectacular social gatherings! Thanks to my membership, I recently trained as a Mentor, which adds to my skill base at work too.
NWFS is not a group of 'man haters' and it certainly isn't just a talking shop. The network is recognised by government, managers and FBU, and we have input on many strategic aspects of the UK Fire Service. Locally and nationally, we organise social and training events, which are a great medium for women (and men) to share experiences and take part in personal development activities. Just look at the Conference and News pages to see the opportunities available to all.. The ethos of the network ensures that nobody is made to feel like 'the outsider' or 'the new girl/boy'' in fact, by the time you leave an event, you will leave with a fistful of new friends and contacts and wonder why you hadn't been before!
We are here to help and support YOU, Brigade and Regional Reps are the first points of contact. If you would like to discuss anything, just drop me a line
